Section Fifty-One

When they were just around the corner from their next location, they saw just a little ways away, flames coming from the inside of a church. They knew that was where they had to be. They ran into the church, and an immediate feeling of horror came upon them. Vittoria and Langdon saw, hanging from the ceiling, a man, stripped of his clothes with the ambigram of fire burned onto his chest. Beneath the man was a pile of benches which were lit on fire. The fire was climbing quickly up towards the man. Vittoria and Langdon did all they could to get the man down, but they could not get to him in time as they heard the screams of excruciating pain, and smelled the terrible scent of burning flesh.

The difference between this situation, and the last two were that the Hassassin was still there this time. Landgon and Vittoria tried to stop him, but the Hassassin had Langdon trapped, and he took Vittoria.

When the fire crew got to the church, they heard what they thought was a bomb, and went towards the sound. When they got closer, they realized that the ticking was from a watch. The watch which was attached to Langdon's wrist. This is the reason that he got found, and survived the fire. When Langdon got up, he searched for Vittoria, but soon realized that she was gone, and that the Hassassin had taken her. Langdon new that the Hassassin would be "saving" her until the end of the night, and that he had one last chance to catch him.

Langdon scrambled to find the clue which would lead him to the destination of the final killing. Finally, after searching frantically, Langdon was on his way to the place where the last killing was going to take place.
